HERE/NOW

3 hour live Sculpture.

A recent development in Vergara’s practice involves organizing spontaneous pop-up shows and public performance pieces. Her work increasingly embraces nontraditional modes of display. Vergara believes that contemporary art has become overly confined within institutional spaces—structures that often carry historical and systemic limitations, particularly for artists of color.

Through unannounced live sculpture performances in public spaces, Vergara explores presence, accessibility, and spatial reclamation. These interventions disrupt the conventional boundaries of where art “belongs,” allowing her to engage broader and more diverse audiences. Each performance reclaims environments not originally designed to hold or honor diasporic and marginalized narratives, transforming them into sites of dialogue, embodiment, and visibility.
